Hunt & Gather, Terraria (HGT)

₱ 1,500

About the Book

A book conscious of itself, this hybrid publication is a culmination of an artistic project that combines
photography, public collaboration, research and publication .

HUNT & GATHER, TERRARIA is a project wherein Metro Manila dwellers were invited by Filipina
contemporary artist Wawi Navarroza to forage for soil, plants and ephemera from various locations in the city. The collected samples volunteered by the public were exhaustively catalogued, and back in the studio, arranged within terrariums by the artist, and then photographed as still lives.

The processual method employed in creating the project is manifested in this artist book containing site documentation photos, critical essays, annotated field notes with an array of botanic images of the specimens, an illustrated manual for creating terrariums, and the complete catalogue of the assembled terrariums.

Within the fabricated terrariums, the city, its memories and its pressing realities inhabit tiny ecosystems from which larger conclusions, reflections and questions are drawn, imagined and asked.
